Professionals belong to specialty guilds - directors, actors, writers, cinematographers, musicians, animators, technicians - to improve their incomes, hone their skills, protect their rights, and have advantages in sharing and growing with their peers. Most ‘craft’ guilds are exclusive requiring an existing member to sponsor new members or require having paid professional job credits to earn a 'guild card’. Professional guilds are like unions. They set professional standards, help with specialized training, handle professional ethics and behavior, and offer protective and work benefits procedures like wage rates, retirement accounts, health coverage, for employment for their members. Professionals also belong to open ‘associations’ that create large gatherings and trade shows to display innovations and provide recognition and awards for their members, to promote growth and knowledge of the constant changes in technology and practice. Both types of organizations help their members keep up and improve their possibilities, careers and earnings.

YBAMA does not seek to replace such specialty guilds and associations, but seeks to introduce students to the types of networking and practices, that such guilds promote, as well as generally prepare students for membership in these types of organizations. It is assumed that students will eventually seek to join the organizations that promote their chosen interests, if they so desire.

THEATRON Workshop #4 Music Video & Audio Design – Planning, Producing, Shooting/Recording, Editing and Showing Your Creation Like the Pros

JOHN CHRISTENSEN, of CMediapost and RAWTV, is a 20 year award winning super pro in film and music video and audio.
PHIL MOHRE is top music video producer and videographer.

The wizard duo will create an overview of music and audio production standards, amateur to pro quality, preparation of your concept with issues of rights and talent relationships, design of the shoot lighting, space, sound and mixing, physical production, inside/outside, b-roll, post production scenarios, exhibition plans, marketing strategies, career and mastery pathways.

THEATRON Workshop #3 Sports Media: Planning, Seeing, Shooting & Editing the Action

Sports media – People, Stories, Feats, are among the most exciting and important aspects in our culture – football, basketball, tennis, volleyball, baseball, golf, swimming, racing - each have a special imagery, story and action! This workshop will teach how to think about each game, pre-production, the new technology of coverage, analyzing and dramatizing the shoot, the background stories, cutaways and interviewing, audience impact from video and broadcasting. Learn what it takes to visually ‘knock the ball out of the park’ and think about your career in this major field.

Directing and Acting are paired in this workshop. Jonathan and Stephanie are the finest artists of these creative skills in our region, both Actors Equity professionals with enormous experience on stage and in media for over 20 years. As co-founders of Capital Stage, they produce an annual series of the top award winning finest performances, acting and directing in their theater’s powerful plays. They will present the essentials in preparation, practice and successful pathways for Directing and guide these to work with actors in their creative roles in media making. The Workshop will structure students to apply and demonstrate what they are learning in small groups to do hands on model directing and acting scenarios and techniques involving scripted dialogue followed by critical group discussions.

This is the starting place… both for our regular second Saturday, pre-professional media arts training THEATRON workshops, and for anything that a creative media producer must plan for and organize in making a media project of any kind. This workshop will be presented as a college quality overview and checklist, complete with extensive handouts to study and use in the future for your work. This will also focus on the Production Portfolio requirements for our upcoming 17th Annual Teen Digital Reel competition coming up. Gary Martin, Professor of TV and Media at Consumnes River College, will teach the session with his incomparable experience and clarity.

Walk up the stairs and head straight towards the large central Library Building. Walk to the right side of the Library and enter from the North side of the building where the TV Media Office is located. There will be signs to get you to Registration. Albert Einstein once said, "The true sign of intelligence is not knowledge, but imagination." Imagine for a moment a modern renaissance, a 21st century California State Fair – an interactive adventure where imagination, technology and the genius of California's knowledge base can renew the relevance of a cherished tradition.

We don't have to minimize the celebration of our state's deep and vibrant agricultural roots, but we could reinvent the State Fair to demonstrate California's transformational role on the global technological stage.
